COVID 19 TESTING AT EMCURA IMMEDIATE CARE
Emcura Medical is proud to serve our communities during this national emergency. We have been performing curbside COVID 19 testing since the beginning of the COVID 19 crisis. We are dedicated to providing the most up-to-date testing options.
We offer RAPID and SEND OUT testing for detection of COVID 19 cases for symptomatic and asymptomatic cases to limit the spread of infection. All testing is FDA EUA authorized and used nationally to accurately diagnose COVID 19 cases.
Safer Testing Outside
We exceed testing guidelines and test outside to avoid aerosols production from testing. Our providers always use protective equipment including gowns, face masks, gloves and N95 masks to provide safe care for all. Follow the steps below:
1.Download the following forms
Complete these forms for each person receiving Send-out and Rapid testing. Do not complete the ’Rapid Testing Form’ if you do not want a RAPID test. Click here to download
[COVID Intake Form]
2. Bring your paperwork
Bring your paperwork, health insurance card and driver’s license with you. To help speed your visit, make two copies of the front and back of your insurance card and driver license (one set for each patient.)
3. Arrive at your convenience!
Arrive at your convenience! We are open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm daily except holidays. On arrival, we will provide a lab requisition form for each person receiving a test.
4. Wait in line
Wait in line and pull forward into our designated spots when one opens. We will collect your completed registration materials and insurance information. You will be swabbed using the more accurate nasopharangeal technique. Once completed, you can either wait in the designated area for Rapid testing results, or you can depart and we can call you later.
We will call or text you regarding your rapid results. Our providers call positive results and provide counselling. You will receive your send-out test results via email directly from Northwest Labs (2-3 days but can vary). The passcode is the patient’s birth year 4 digit.
COVID 19 Nasal Swab- RAPID of SEND-OUT tests - Testing for the presence of COVID 19
We offer SEND OUT TESTING (molecular RT-PCR) which detects the presence of the RNA of the SARS -CoV-2 virus that causes COVID 19. These samples are sent to the lab for processing. This test is considered the Gold Standard and uses a nasopharyngeal swab (inserted into the back of the nasal passage where it meets the throat) to collect material. This material is analyzed to detect any physical pieces of coronavirus. A positive result indicated that viral genetic material is present. A negative result indicates that the COVID 19 virus was not detected. It is possible to have a very low level of virus in the body with a negative result. For more information [COVID SEND OUT]
Our RAPID TESTING detects the presence of the SARS -CoV-2 antigens (pieces of virus) or RNA. SARS-CoV-2 is the virus that causes COVID 19. These samples are analyzed on-site and results may be returned in as little as 15-20 min (average 1-2 hours). This test uses a nasopharyngeal swab (inserted into the back of the nasal passage where it meets the throat) to collect material. This material is analyzed to detect any physical pieces of coronavirus. A positive result indicated that viral structure material is present. A negative result indicates that the COVID 19 virus was not detected. It is possible to have a very low level of virus in the body with a negative result.
We currently use the Sophia 2 and BD Veritor systems for COVID 19 testing and will soon have a rapid PCR option with the Abbott ID NOW system. [COVID RAPID TESTING]
The Sophia 2 SARS-CoV-2 testing is 97.9% accurate with symptomatic patients.
The BD Veritor SARS – CoV-2 testing is 84% accurate with symptomatic patients.
The Abbott ID NOW SARS – CoV-2 testing is approx. 94% accurate with symptomatic patients.
We continue to look for additional testing options to improve accuracy, reduce cost, and increase comfort!
COVID 19 Antibody Testing- Testing for COVID 19 exposure
COVID 19 antibody testing can be used to determine prior infection with COVID 19 and possible immunity to COVID 19. Emcura Medical has offered this FDA authorized COVID 19 antibody testing immediately after it was brought to market! Our testing is 100% sensitive and 99.7% specific, giving you accurate results. We use the Abbott Architect system in use nationally and is FDA EUA Authorized! This is a blood test (vein blood draw and not a fingerstick sample) and is designed to detect antibodies (IgG) against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
What is Antibody Testing?
Antibodies are proteins produced by the immune system in response to an infection and are specific to that particular infection. An IgG antibody is the long-term memory antibody, like a book in a library. When an infection occurs, this antibody is referenced, then copied exponentially to produce a large amount of proteins that will ’coat’ the virus, preventing the virus from attaching to your body’s cells. These are called neutralizing antibodies. The presence of antibodies may indicate resistance to repeat infections. Antibodies can be produced as early as 2 weeks after an infection but a Cleveland Clinic study indicated that SARS-CoV-2 infections induced a slower antibody response than normal. Due to this, and other studies, we are recommending patients wait 3-4 weeks after a suspected infection for more accurate antibody testing.
How do I schedule a test?
Our antibody testing process is easy and safe! Make an appointment online at Emcura.com and complete your information in advance. We do this to space patients apart and to maintain a safe environment. Once you arrive, identify yourself to the front desk staff, and you will be taken to a room for your blood draw. Do not come to your appointment if you are experiencing any symptoms for COVID 19 per the CDC; if you have been exposed to a COVID 19 positive known case; if you have been exposed to possible/ pending COVID 19 case. We will draw your labs and call you back when they arrive.
I am COVID 19 antibody positive. What does this mean?
A positive antibody test means you have been exposed to SARS CoV1 virus that causes COVID 19 and you have developed an immune response. We are still deciding what a positive test means. There are theories where a person may remain immune for a least 3 months after exposure, but this has not been proven.
Keep the following in mind:
- Please be aware that testing in asymptomatic individuals is less accurate than in symptomatic patients. Our goal is to provide you with the most accurate results, so we recommend a SEND OUT test along with a RAPID test.
- Please verify coverage with your insurance as most will not pay for ‘return to work’, ‘return to school’, or ‘no exposure/no symptom’ cases.
- Rapid Testing is currently covered by the following insurances (BCBS- in state residents only, BCN, Cigna, Aetna, Medicare and Medicaid). If your insurance is not listed, it is not a covered benefit, and the charge is currently $60.00.
- Our testing is billed as an office visit and testing is ordered by the provider.
- Please be patient during this national crisis! We are here to help!
