You misstep off a curb or catch yourself during a fall. Instantly, pain shoots through your ankle or wrist. As swelling sets in, you face a common dilemma: Is it just a bad sprain, or did you actually break a bone?
At Emcura Immediate Care, we help patients get answers quickly without the extended wait times that can accompany emergency room visits for non-life-threatening injuries.
Led by Dr. Supak Sookkasikon, our family-owned practice provides on-site digital X-rays to diagnose your injury quickly.
We treat patients across Southeast Michigan, with convenient clinics in Bloomfield Township, Northville, Grosse Pointe Woods, and Royal Oak.
It’s difficult to distinguish between a sprain and a fracture based on pain alone. A sprain occurs when you stretch or tear a ligament, which connects bones in a joint. A break, or fracture, is a crack or split in the bone itself. Both injuries cause swelling, bruising, and tenderness.
To determine if you need imaging, medical providers use specific physical guidelines. For many ankle injuries, providers use the Ottawa Ankle Rules to determine whether X-rays are needed.
If you can bear weight and don’t have tenderness over specific areas of your ankle or foot, you may not require X-rays. If these low-risk criteria aren’t met, your provider may recommend X-rays to rule out a fracture.
Our team specializes in evaluating acute injuries like strains and sprains. We perform a thorough physical exam first to determine whether imaging is appropriate.
Not every musculoskeletal injury requires a trip to the emergency room. However, certain warning signs mean you need immediate hospital care.
The American Society for Surgery of the Hand recommends immediate emergency care for injuries with severe deformity or signs of nerve or blood vessel damage. If your limb looks severely deformed, an open wound reveals bone, or the injured area feels cold, numb, or loses circulation, seek emergency care immediately.
For stable, closed injuries, an outpatient clinic is often the most efficient choice. At our clinics, we quickly diagnose and treat stable fractures by providing professional splinting and stabilization on-site.
Waiting hours in a crowded hospital emergency room is stressful and expensive. We designed our clinics to provide a faster, more comfortable alternative for non-life-threatening injuries.
We offer on-site digital imaging, allowing you can receive imaging and a clinical evaluation in one visit, without needing to travel to a separate imaging center.
Our board-certified physicians and clinical team review your scans immediately, explain your diagnosis, and apply the necessary splint or brace right away.
If you suspect a sprain or a fracture, walk in, call our office most convenient to you, or schedule an appointment online today to get the fast, compassionate care you deserve.
